It was meant to be closed for four months for renovations

Bedford’s Butterfly Bridge has opened ahead of schedule.

It closed in January and was given a more skid-resistant surface.

Work was due to take up to four months to complete – but it’s now open.

As well as the new surface, the bridge – which carries pedestrians and cyclists over the River Great Ouse between The Embankment and Longholme Island in Mill Meadows – was also painted and cleaned.
